Interview

Karin Konradova

Karin is a Czech artist from Prague but she now resides in Toulouse, France where she paints and prepares for her next exhibition. She quit her very well-paid job in corporate to follow her dream to become a painter and share happiness through her work. Karin once considered her greatest passions to be sports, travel, and culinary delights. That was until she grasped a paintbrush and faced her first canvas. In a heartbeat, the world faded away, replaced by an indescribable sensation as she began to paint. It was truly ‘love at first brush.’ She has always been captivated by abstract art—its vibrant colors, enigmatic forms, and striking brushstrokes. Drawing inspiration from her emotions, experiences, and the essence of life itself, she channels a sense of freedom and boundless potential with every stroke. Simultaneously, her art nurtures a deep sense of peace and growth within her heart, soul, body, and mind. Karin aspires for her paintings to radiate happiness and positive energy, creating joy in homes that welcome her work.

What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“I'm an intuitive self-taught painter. I've always been fascinated by abstract art - its vibrant colors, impenetrable nature, and visible brushstrokes. I've always believed that my three passions were sport, traveling, and good food and drink until I held a paintbrush in my hand and stood before my first canvas. In an instant, I completely forgot about the world around me and was filled with an indescribable feeling as I painted. It was ‘love at first brush.’”

What inspires you?

“I'm inspired by my feelings, experiences, and life itself. With each stroke of my brush, I feel a sense of freedom and endless possibility, while at the same time immense peace and growth in my heart, soul, body, and mind.”

What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?

“All my paintings are about life. Everything happens for a reason, all bad for something good. The message is that it’s all about the positive mindset and never stop believing in yourselves.”

The wall in Costa Rica was completed last year (2024) for a restaurant named ‘Mycelium.’ It stretches 30 meters and was a big challenge for me as it was my first wall project. While on holiday traveling from north to south, I was asked to paint it. I decided to return to the restaurant to take on the project. I had just a few days to finish in intense heat, but I enjoy challenges, and I'm proud and happy with the final result!”

How would you describe your work?

“Happy, and positive - I truly hope that my paintings will spread happiness and positive energy to all. When they spark joy in your heart, it's the biggest honour for me.”

Which artists influence you most?

“I’m influenced by myself the most. I do admire many artist but at the end of the day, I want to stay original and never copy anyone else.”

“All my paintings are about life. Everything happens for a reason, all bad for something good. The messages is that it’s all about the positive mindset and never stop believing in yourselves.”

What is your creative process like?

“I wake up, make myself a tea, listen to mantras - I also meditate and exercise - and try to relax myself to the maximum and then let the magic happen. I will also put on some relaxing music on and when it’s nice weather I paint outside on my terrace as it gives me so much positive energy! I never really know what I’m gonna paint next, I love to be surprised so I just follow my hand and feelings.”

What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?

“Any type of art inspires people, it’s very powerful, it can touch your soul and heart in a way that words cannot. Influences, inspires, shows endless possibilities, etc., creating art is the best channel how to share positive vibes and beauty to the world. It’s pure.”

Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?

“All my exhibitions were special to me. The biggest and most successful one I’ve done was last year in a historical building close to the Prague castle. On that special night, I’ve understood that if you follow your dream with devotion, love and passion - no one can stop you, everything is possible.”
