Miranda Leaver

M.E. Leaver is a talented artist whose focus is painting and mixed media. Her work ranges from oil to India inks, watercolors to acrylic, spanning contemporary to abstract styles. Based in Davidson, North Carolina, M.E. creates art that aims to bring joy to those who experience it. Explore the beauty that emerges from the chaos of life that has motivated her creative process.

What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“Creating since my childhood has always brought me joy and fulfillment. I was too afraid when I was younger to chance being a creative full-time until recently. Loss during the last few years brought the creativity out in force. It is about finding joy in the challenges for me. Escaping from reality of my own life and while seeking peace was where it started. My painting is about color and feelings. My intent to provide a positive emotional source for people who view my work. I embrace live in the moment and dive right in.”

What does your work aim to say? Does it comment on any current social or political issues?

“Finding joy in the chaos of the moment.”

Do you plan your work in advance, or is it improvisation?

“It truly depends on the piece. Some pieces come to me in colors before I start others, just fully improvise. Very rarely do I sketch before.”

“My art means peace to me.”

Are there any art world trends you are following?

“Mixed media trends have been fascinating to me, along with a number of new techniques.”

What process, materials and techniques do you use to create your artwork?

“My process is very flexible. I love trying new materials. As for the techniques, it depends on what the piece is and the direction it is going. I will often start with inking or gold leafing canvases. Once that base is set - the canvases have a tendency to determine their own direction.”

What does your art mean to you?

“My art means peace to me.”

What’s your favourite artwork and why?

“Of my own pieces - it changes. Often it is about a combination of boldness, brightness and soothing vibes.”

Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?

“Most recently, I was invited to participate in a Director's Choice Exhibit at Cain Center for the Arts in Cornelius, North Carolina. Additionally, a recent piece displayed in Times Square in New York City as part of another exhibit.”
