Shirin Amirbeaggi

Born in Tehran, raised in London and Sydney, Shirin excelled in art from a young age, and through her work funded her studies through commissions. Shirin has lived and worked in San Francisco and now based in Sydney and continues creating artwork which can end up anywhere in the world depending on where her clients are based.  Her focus is on light, dimension, and photorealism. She was a 2022 Gallipoli Art Prize finalist and entered the 2022 and 2023 Archibald Art Prize.

 

What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“I was born in Tehran, and raised in London and Sydney. I excelled in art from a young age. I partly funded my university tuition through commissions. I work between Sydney and San Francisco.”

What does your work aim to say? Does it comment on any current social or political issues?

“My work is very much individual and created based on my client’s needs. Each piece I create, is bespoke and custom designed to meet each individual client’s request. I try not to be political with my artwork.”

Do you plan your work in advance, or is it improvisation?

“My work is very much planned a head of time.”

Are there any art world trends you are following?

“I am fascinated by Sergi Cadenas‘s work and study his style. I have been practicing this type of work - kinetic art.”

What process, materials and techniques do you use to create your artwork?

“My work is often multifaceted, it’s combination of photography, sketch, acrylic or oil painting. I paint on a number of canvas types, regular canvas, chrome metal or fine art paper.”

“Each piece I create, is bespoke and custom designed to meet each individual client’s request.”

 What does your art mean to you?

“Because each piece is custom, each piece is unique and holds its own special place in my heart.”

What’s your favorite artwork and why?

“One of my favorite pieces is one called ‘a walk in the rain.’ It’s a powerful romantic piece for me.”
