Interview

Raj Chauhan

I am a Travel and Street photographer. I love exploring different places and capturing scenic beauty. It's been two years since I started photography. I have been selected in two galleries for my photography work: Boomergallery (UK) and Holy Art Athens (UK).

What is your background and how did you start your journey?

“As a Profession, I am a Software Tester. I started my photography journey around three years ago. I was capturing photos with my "Samsung S6" and later upgraded to DSLR Nikon D5600. Photography is all about being creative; I get a creative feeling whenever I am in nature. Whenever I observed a new place, I was obsessed with capturing it with my camera. I took many photos with my phone. One day I showed it to my friend, and after getting appreciation, I upgraded my skills. I am currently writing a photography and travel-related blog at www.photofuzz.net.”

What inspires you most?

“I love exploring and traveling to different places. The part that inspires me significantly is when I am out with a camera in my hand and a random location in front of me. Till now, I have traveled to more than 20 cities to capture photos.”

What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?

“The majority of my work is a representation of nature and landscapes. It holds significant emotion and momentum. Each photo has been taken at a unique time and perspective.”

“My work is all about nature and travel. When you look at my photos, it should revive new energy about a particular place. Each image subtly delivers specific stories.”

Which artists influence you most?

“I started improving my photography skills by observing the work of Professor Hines and Peter McKinnon. Other artists include Alan plunder, Chris Hau, North Borders, etc. Each artist is a master in a specific area.”

What is your creative process like?

“There is only one process: Feeling the camera’s shutter and view. In most of my images, preplanning plays a significant role. It reduces the workload. When traveling to a particular place, I research that area and the best times for sunrise/sunset.”

What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?

“Artist fuels the soul in the city with creativity. Without art, the city is made of concrete walls and steel wires. The artist plays a significant role in society by holding the strong momentum of art. Not only do some people continue their journey of being an artist, but it requires strong motivation and belief in their art. It is hard for an artist to monetize their work. I have seen many artists struggling around a bit in that area.”

Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?

“My photos were selected for the UK gallery (Boomergallery and Holy art gallery). One shot was featured in a USA gallery (The Art Square Gallery). Moreover, Rawartistscanada chose me to showcase my photography skills in downtown Toronto. They also provided me with the tour showcase in Ottawa. ”
