Michael Manning started collecting magazines, cutting them up and gluing them to his bedroom walls when he was 14. He is a black man. He is adopted, and his adoptive family identifies as white. Identity is a daily chore for Michael, especially as an African-American. Collage helps him work through this with his hands.
