Simon Sunrise

Simon Sunrise is a 27 year old tattoo artist from Aarschot. He is currently a full-time tattoo artist at Sunrise Skin Art. Simon feels at home in detail work. He specializes in blackwork, dotwork and botanical designs. Nature and fantasy are recurring themes in his designs.

What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“I used to work in a social workplace. When I build up enough clients, I quit my job to fully commit myself to drawing and tattooing.”

What inspires you?

“Most of my inspiration comes from nature, such as flowers or animals.”

What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?

“The sunrise means after every dark night, there is a brighter day after that. Tattoos gave my life meaning. A way to do something positive with the pain.”

How would you describe your work?

“My work does not feel like working; it's more like making a living off my favorite hobby.”

Which artists influence you most?

“Kubrickgood, Zittenofart, Ninou_chka and Muriel Mortal.”

“The sunrise means after every dark night, there is a brighter day after that.”

What is your creative process like?

“I, most of the time, draw late at night. Then, I can be the most calm and creative.”

What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?

“I think most artists try to live a bit out off society.”
