Sehun Choi, a South Korean AI Concept Artist and Architectural Technologist based in Toronto, Canada, is passionate about experimenting with creative concepts. As the author of "The Definitive AI Handbook for Architects," Sehun explores how historic buildings, once serving diverse purposes, impart unique lessons and inspire modern creativity. His work aims to offer new perspectives through AI technology, presenting creativity as an integral aspect of identity. Sehun’s art exhibition showcases this vision, utilizing AI to bridge the past and present and to convey the timeless essence of creativity.

What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“My roots are in architecture. I was captivated by the beauty of architectural forms and sought to merge this with my creativity to offer a fresh perspective through my art. In August of last year, I embarked on my artistic journey, leveraging generative AI to project my creative vision.”

What inspires you?

“I draw inspiration from iconic landmarks across the globe.”

What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?

“I explore the enduring nature of architectural marvels that have stood the test of time, sometimes for centuries or millennia. My work challenges the perception of these structures as mere urban symbols. By applying new paradigms to these landmarks, I aim to shatter conventional thinking and offer a novel perspective.”

How would you describe your work?

“My work expands the boundaries of creativity by imbuing familiar sights with new visual interpretations.”

Which artists influence you most?

“Hoseok Jang, the Space Creative Director of Hosting House in Korea, has been a significant influence. His ability to transcend the limitations of his role as a space director and continuously push his boundaries has been deeply inspiring. I had the privilege of interning at his company in my youth.”

“I explore the enduring nature of architectural marvels that have stood the test of time, sometimes for centuries or millennia.”

What is your creative process like?

“When I encounter creative blocks, I challenge myself with further questions. The resulting inspiration is first sketched by hand. I then merge these sketches with prompts using AI technologies like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion to complete my pieces.”

What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?

“I believe an artist's role is to offer fresh perspectives to the public. While the younger generation tends to be drawn to stimulating and entertaining content, they often feel disconnected from history. I aspire to be an artist who can reinterpret history - a source of valuable life lessons - in a way that resonates with and engages this audience.”

Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?

“I've been honored with Honorable Mentions in the AI Creative Challenge 3.0 and 4.0 hosted by the Parametric Architecture platform. My work has been exhibited at the Rosedale Art Fair in Toronto, Canada, the Boomer Gallery in London, UK, and the Booze and Pancake Art Show.”
