What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“My artistic journey began with humble origins, marked by a self-taught exploration of various mediums that eventually paved the way for my distinctive voice in the world of art. During my university years, I delved into the realms of ceramics, glass blowing, and printmaking, immersing myself in the tactile and diverse world of these crafts. This multifaceted education provided a solid foundation for my artistic evolution, exposing me to the intricacies of form, texture, and composition. It was amidst the creative diversity of ceramics, the fluidity of glass blowing, and the precise artistry of printmaking that my passion for artistic expression found its early roots. These experiences, although seemingly disparate, collectively enriched my understanding of artistic processes, fostering a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and technique. The transition into oil paintings marked a pivotal moment in my artistic trajectory. Drawing from the skills cultivated in my earlier pursuits, I embraced the rich and dynamic world of oil painting. This evolution allowed me to explore the depth and emotive qualities that the medium offers, giving rise to the captivating and nuanced works for which I am known today.”

What inspires you?

“I draw inspiration from the enchanting space that exists between heaven and earth, a realm where the ethereal and the earthly converge in a dance of cosmic harmony. This celestial theme resonates throughout my work, manifesting in the recurring motifs that pepper the canvases. The artful repetitions of these motifs serve as a visual refrain, echoing the rhythm of the universe and emphasizing the cyclical nature of life. My artistic landscapes often transport viewers to a fantasy realm adorned with intriguing elements. The presence of double diamonds introduces a sense of mystique, symbolizing dualities and the interconnectedness of opposing forces. This juxtaposition creates a rich visual tension that invites contemplation and interpretation. Palm trees, with their tall and graceful silhouettes, stand as stoic sentinels in my artistic universe. These emblems of exotic allure evoke a sense of wanderlust and transport viewers to faraway landscapes, adding a touch of the tropical to her imaginative tableau. Stars, scattered like celestial confetti across her canvases, act as beacons of hope and dreams, inviting viewers to gaze upon the cosmic tapestry and contemplate their own place in the vastness of existence.”

What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?

“I skillfully intertwine the threads of tradition and modernity, seamlessly blending the familiar with the exotic. Through this harmonious fusion, I craft a profound work of art that transcends the constraints of time and geography. Within the strokes of my brush lies a deliberate exploration of themes, revealing an underlying message that beckons viewers to delve into a captivating realm, one where boundaries dissolve, and the canvas becomes a portal to a timeless narrative—an intricate tapestry of cultural richness, connectivity, and the enduring resonance of shared human experiences.”

How would you describe your work?

“Immersing myself in the creation of this painting, I couldn't help but be entranced by the evocative imagery I wove into the canvas. The palm trees, standing tall and graceful, seem to share their secrets with the breeze, their fronds whispering tales of distant lands. The lions and tigers, portrayed with an almost mystical quality, emanate a powerful yet graceful aura, a fusion that has long captivated my artistic soul and, hopefully, resonates with admirers. The celestial elements, with stars scattered like beacons, add an intriguing layer, infusing the composition with a sense of hope and dreams that mirrors the very essence of my artistic vision.”

Which artists influence you most?

“Drawing inspiration from a rich tapestry of artistic influences, I find profound motivation in the works of esteemed Australian artists such as Jill Lewis, Michael McHugh, and Michel McGrath. Each brushstroke and creative choice by these luminaries serves as a wellspring of inspiration for me, influencing my artistic journey. Jill Lewis, known for her textural stories imparts a sense of magic that resonates with my own exploration of overlapping elements. Michael McHugh's mastery in floral mastery using light and shade becomes a guiding beacon, shaping my approach to wonder with depth and nuance. Additionally, Michael McGrath's ability to infuse narrative and emotion into his works inspires me to craft narratives within my own art. This collective influence not only enriches my artistic vocabulary but also underscores the interconnectedness of Australia's vibrant artistic community.”

What is your creative process like?

“My artistic process is a fascinating exploration of the interplay between the conscious and the subconscious, a dance where thoughts buried deep within the recesses of my mind gradually come to light and transform into tangible expressions on canvas. Embracing the philosophy that creativity often flourishes when allowed to flow organically, I initiate my work by tapping into the subconscious reservoir. This involves an intuitive surrender to the ebb and flow of ideas, where the strokes of my brush become conduits for the untold stories lurking within. In this fluid and introspective approach, I allow my subconscious thoughts to dictate the direction of my art, unveiling a realm where instinct and inspiration meld seamlessly. The canvas becomes a visual diary, capturing the unspoken nuances of my inner world. As the layers of paint accumulate, a narrative unfolds, shaped by the whispers of my subconscious mind.”

What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?

“In today's dynamic society, artists play a crucial role in reflecting and shaping cultural narratives. The evolving landscape of technology, globalization, and social consciousness has prompted artists to explore new mediums and perspectives. Beyond the traditional confines of galleries and studios, contemporary artists engage with a broader audience through digital platforms, community projects, and interdisciplinary collaborations. As society becomes increasingly interconnected, artists are at the forefront of sparking conversations, challenging norms, and fostering empathy. Their role extends beyond aesthetic expression to that of catalysts for change and advocates for social and environmental issues. This transformative function positions artists as vital contributors to the evolving fabric of our collective consciousness, influencing how we perceive, interpret, and respond to the world around us.”
