Niloufar Hoveyda
Niloufar has been developing her talent as an artist since the age of 15. She studied Arts at Azad University, where she received extensive training. Her painting skill and style explore her native Middle Eastern culture. She held several exhibitions in Iran. She was the award winner at the First Iranian Painting Biennale. She was the Artist of the month at Liquitex award program in 2003. She has held several exhibitions with Art project in N.Y. and L.A. Her works are inspired by the mystery of the Middle Eastern culture. This is a unique feature that distinguishes her works. She searches for light in total darkness, and unfolds her dreams through vibrant colors, brush and canvas. She believes that reality and dreams coexist, and she endeavors to expose the hidden dreams into visual forms she could share with others.
Touching one's feelings, breaking the silence, creating dynamics with deep insight is her true artistic experience. What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?
“I left my homeland in 1993 to study Arts in Europe and finally settled in Northern California in the early 2000's. I continued my education at the San Jose State University and graduated in Pictorial Arts with a miner in Graphic Design in 2002.”
What inspires you?
“I believe that reality and dreams coexist. I search for light in total darkness and unfold my dreams through vibrant colors, using brush and canvas. My works are inspired by the mystery and depth of the Middle Eastern culture. I endeavor to expose the hidden dreams into visual forms that I could share with others. Touching one's feelings, breaking the silence, creating dynamics with deep insight is my true artistic experience.”
What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?
“Expressive art that relates to internal emotions. I combine my work as both a psychotherapist and an artist into canvas to unveil deeper meanings behind our emotions and experiences.”
How would you describe your work?
“I do a lot of work on canvas with acrylics, watercolor, oil, mixed media, and abstract images. I specialize in drawing women.”
Which artists influence you most?
“I am influenced by many artists and by daily life in general. Some artists I look up to include: Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse.”

What is your creative process like?
“I like to get lost in music as my inspiration, while I intuitively sketch and then paint. I am often inspired by the raw emotions we feel as humans each day and utilize this as my creative flow.”
What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?
“Artist's role in society is to encourage authenticity, individuality, and vulnerability.”
Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?
“I was the award winner at the First Iranian Painting Biennale 1992. I was also the artist of the month at Liquitex award program in 2003. I held several exhibitions with Art project in N.Y., LA and featured Artist of Gasta NDNU Art show 2017.”
