Interview

Min Cha

From 2001 until 2004 Min studies Applied Art Education at the Hanyang University in South Korea. From 2007, she works as a computer graphic artist in the film industry.

What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“I enjoyed the compliment about my painting when I was little. I thought the best talent that I was born with was the painting skill. I continued painting since then and graduated art university. But everyone said fine art as a job is not ideal. So, I learned computer graphic and got a job in film industry. Working with computer is fine but wasn't the same as painting on a canvas. So, I keep painting whenever I have time.”

What inspires you?

“Everything around me that make me smile, warms my heart or gives peace in my mind inspires me. When I see some beautiful flowers, kids and dogs in the park or people in the cafe enjoying their cup of tea etc.”

What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?

“The feeling of peace and happiness.”

How would you describe your work?

“My work is the medium that delivers the feeling of the moment.”

Which artists influence you most?

“I admire the peace and love message in Marc Chagall's painting and bright, joyful feeling in Monet's painting.”

“My work is the medium that delivers the feeling of the moment.”

What is your creative process like?

“I take a pictures or video of the moment that I like and stare at the scene for a while to remember the feeling that the picture is not able to capture. Then, I paint base on the picture I took and add the feeling that I felt at that moment.”

What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?

“I think many artists try to cherish the feeling of the moment they experienced and share with many people. I personally want to cherish happiest memories and share it.”

Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?

“Yes, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in several exhibitions that have allowed me to grow as an artist and share my work with a wider audience. Notable shows include: She Who Tells a Story – Sebring, Florida (Sept–Nov 2024) -my first gallery showing, where I thought at one point, I may never get another chance to do this, and fortunately it has just grown ever since. Other shows include: Season of Trees – Oakland, Florida (Nov 2024–Jan 2025); Spring Photography Show, Southlake Art League – Clermont, Florida (Mar–Apr 2025); 100% Pure Florida Exhibition – Fifth Avenue Art Gallery, Melbourne, Florida (Mar–Apr 2025); Jax Photography Hub Gallery Showcase – Jacksonville, Florida (May 2025). I also had the honor of presenting my first solo exhibition at a local coffee house, where I curated a collection of local nature-inspired images. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with the community and share the emotion behind my work in a more personal setting.”
