Interview

Lilly Ruiz

Lilly feels, hopes and she dreams! She is just someone that likes to create new things and she expresses herself through art!

What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“I've always been attracted to all types of art, from literature to photographs, paintings etc. I started with photography, and a few years ago I received a “call” from the universe that I must paint, so I started and hard to stop. I always want to create something new. It just makes me feel alive and happy!”

What does your work aim to say? Does it comment on any current social or political issues?

“My work is intended to represent freedom, joy and happiness!”

Do you plan your work in advance, or is it improvisation?

"Mostly improvisation, but sometimes I plan my works.”

Are there any art world trends you are following?

“Abstract art among others! Honestly, I just put on wood, metal or canvas what I feel at the moment. I could get inspired by anything…”

What process, materials and techniques do you use to create your artwork?

“I love using stones in a lot of my artworks, as I feel Mother Earth and my works are more in touch that way. I am attracted to yin yang as well - and create a lot of them. But again, I paint what I feel.... The colors I use are also based on that hard-to-explain inside feeling... I just can't translate it into words; that's why I put it in my art'; on my canvas. The texture I create is a feeling as well! My work must be seen in person honestly A photo doesn't allow you to "feel" the painting the way you would in person!”

What does your art mean to you?

“Emotion, freedom, peace, happiness, release, passion, communication and connection.”

What’s your favourite artwork and why?

“I don't have one favorite artwork... I just love everything that makes me feel something inside.”
