What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“I began my artistic journey in college, exploring the depth and complexity of oil paints. This passion evolved into a 30-year profession in photography, where I honed my eye for composition and detail. Recently, I've returned to my roots, embracing painting once more - this time with oils, acrylics, and mixed media - rekindling my love for tactile creativity.”

What inspires you?

“My artwork is deeply inspired by the brilliance and boldness of nature. The way light interacts with people and places fascinates me. I find parallels between these interactions and human emotions, which I strive to reflect in my work. Each piece is a personal journey, an exploration of the subtle interplay between light, nature, and emotion.”

What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?

“The central themes I pursue revolve around the interplay of light and color, particularly as they manifest in landscapes and abstract compositions. My work aims to evoke a sense of wonder and peace, drawing viewers in through the use of vibrant hues and the careful manipulation of light. The underlying message is one of connection - between us and the natural world, between different elements of the visual field, and between the viewer and their own emotional response to the artwork.”

How would you describe your work?

“My artwork is a vivid fusion of bold colors and tactile textures, designed to catch the eye and stir the soul. Each piece is a personal exploration, an intimate journey rendered in vibrant hues and richly layered textures. I strive to create works that resonate with viewers, sparking a dialogue between the art and the observer. My art is not just to be seen, but to be felt, experienced, and reflected upon.”

Which artists influence you most?

“My artistic influences are deeply rooted in the works of Ansel Adams and Salvador Dali. I'm inspired by Adams' adeptness at capturing light on landscapes, which has shaped my appreciation for natural beauty. Similarly, Dali's thought-provoking surrealism encourages me to push creative boundaries and explore the depths of my imagination.”

What is your creative process like?

“My creative process begins with an inspiration, often from nature or personal experiences. I then sketch out a preliminary design to visualize my idea. Color plays a vital role in my artwork, so I carefully select a palette that best conveys the mood and message of the piece. I experiment with different textures and techniques as I paint, allowing the artwork to evolve organically. I consider my artwork complete when it resonates emotionally with me.”

What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?

“An artist in society acts as a mirror, reflecting both the beauty and the challenges that we face. They inspire by creating works that resonate deeply, stirring emotions and sparking thought. Art allows us to connect with our humanity on a profound level, fostering empathy and understanding. As for its evolution, I believe technology is reshaping the landscape. Digital platforms have democratized art, making it more accessible and allowing artists to reach a global audience. Additionally, new mediums like digital art and virtual reality offer innovative ways to express and experience art. Despite these changes, the essence of art - its ability to touch our souls and make us feel deeply - will remain constant, reinforcing its enduring relevance in society.”
