Interview

Fred Parker

Fred Parker is a retired public service officer after 43 years.

He is a self taught artist, using varying styles and mediums to create one of a kind works. Fred’s bold and beautiful color arrangements have led to his work going viral, and being collected across the USA.

His experience after a decorated career - that includes everything from being a priest, to a hairdresser, and even police officer - has influenced his completely unique style of work.

What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“After more than 50 years of what many describe as an unbelievable career of being a:
Catholic Priest,
Celebrity Hair Dresser,
Fire Fighter,
Police Officer,
& Musician,
I decided to pick up a paint brush and try to create some artwork. Unlike my other professions, I received no training whatsoever. However, soon after I starting painting, I began to gain a large following, which to my surprise has ‘gone viral’. This led to my work having acquired a large world-wide fan base.”

“Numerous galleries throughout the USA have purchased my work. Each and every work is one of a kind. I have also won numerous awards around the world, and have had my work exhibited in several art museums across the North American continent.”

Could you tell us more about your creative process?

“My work is simple. I don’t follow any logic, or direction when starting a painting. They all come within at the start of each project. If my paintings do not sell with a year, I destroy the paintings and do what I call ‘Over Paints’, which is covering up the picture and starting over. Each completed painting is assigned a number, then photographed and registered with the owner of the picture. It is then entered into my artist log.”

What materials do you use to create your artwork?

“The materials I use are acrylic, pastels, and colored pencil.”

What motivates you most to create your work?

“I love painting and exhibiting, and most of all, I love meeting and talking to people.”

Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?

“Although I travel extensively, I am currently a featured artist at Howard Allen Events as a juried artist.”
