Interview
Elena María De Castro Mochón
Elena is a contemporary artist with a life dedicated to art. Her current work explores the connection between art, the soul, and meditation. Vibrant colors emerge from the darkness to reveal what her soul feels.
What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?
“My artistic journey began in graphic design, a discipline that taught me the foundations of composition, color theory, and the power of visual communication. After that, I continued my training in the private studio of a hyperrealist painter, working primarily with oil and pastel. This experience allowed me to develop a meticulous approach to technique and a deep connection with the creative process. Since childhood, I have felt an undeniable need to paint and express myself through art, which is why I have always chosen fine arts as my natural way of communicating with the world. Throughout my life, my artistic path has been interrupted at different times due to personal and professional circumstances, but art has never left me — it has always remained present, quietly reminding me of who I am. With each return to painting, depending on the moment I was living and my connection with technique, my expression evolved and transformed. Every creative stage has revealed its own language, growing alongside me.”
What inspires you?
“My latest collection is inspired by my relationship with meditation and inner exploration. Through practices based on quantum physics, I dive into the understanding of ourselves as pure energy — vibrating, creating, and constantly interacting with the world around us. My art emerges from that invisible field where consciousness, emotion, and the unknown coexist.”
What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?
“The soul, our connection with nature, and the realm of dreams are the recurring themes in my paintings. I want to remind the viewer that this connection is real — that what the artwork transmits is shaped by their own energy, their story, their vibration. Each piece is a mirror, a portal for personal interpretation and spiritual resonance.”
How would you describe your work?
“Each of my pieces is born from inner silence and a deep state of presence. My creative process is a ritual: I close my eyes to listen to the soul and open my heart to allow form, color, and symbol to emerge. My current collection is an awakening — an intimate explosion that brings the invisible into form. I paint not only what I see, but what resonates… and what heals.”
Which artists influence you most?
“Picasso, Dalí, Monet, and Vincent van Gogh have shaped my artistic sensitivity. My years living in Mexico transformed my perception of contemporary art — I carry with me the power of Frida Kahlo, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and the artistic expressions that arise from the profound union between the human and the intangible.”
What is your creative process like?
“Some of my works are born from meditations by Tony Espigares or the music that guides my inner states, such as Mei-lan’s sound journeys. My latest creations are painted with fluorescent colors, revealing two dimensions of reality — one under natural light and another under blue light. I want to show what can emerge when artistic technique becomes a gateway to another dimension of perception.”
What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?
“An artist is a bridge — between the visible world and the invisible one. We translate emotions, intuition, and collective experiences into symbols that help others recognize themselves. Today, in a society that moves fast and often disconnects us from our own essence, the artist’s role is expanding. We are becoming facilitators of transformation — not only creating beauty, but creating awareness. Art is evolving into a space of consciousness, where every viewer can explore who they are as energetic beings connected to nature and to each other.”
Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?
“The most recent exhibition I participated in — and the one I am most excited to highlight — was a collective show held at Garaje Son Armadams, located in the Son Armadams neighborhood of Palma de Mallorca. This exhibition was especially meaningful to me, as it presented works from my latest collection, born from a deep process of meditation, energetic exploration, and personal transformation. Sharing this stage with fellow artists and connecting directly with the audience made it a truly inspiring and enriching experience.”
