Interview
Arvelyn Almeda
Arvelyn hails from the beautiful country known as the Pearl of the Orient Seas, the Philippines.
She’s skilled in composing songs, writing poems, sketching, and of course her favorite, painting—all of which fill her daily life with joy and satisfaction.
What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?
“I’ve always enjoyed sketching and painting. As a teenager, I’d compete with my peers in college, and I always won. After graduating from college, I decided to work in Dubai as a marketing executive. I worked there for 8 years and I thought I’d never touch a paintbrush again. But my coworkers nominated me for a painting competition, and I didn’t disappoint them as I won the grand prize.
Upon arriving in the U.S., where I now live with my 3 children, I realized my desire to paint had not wavered. I was dedicated to my dream and, with my husband’s support, decided to embark on this new venture to do what I truly love.
I hope my creations will be a blessing and bring happiness to everyone who views them. It’s a great honor to share my vision and God-given talent with the world, and in so doing give glory, honor, and thanksgiving to the most creative creator I know—our Maker!”

What inspires you?
“I love the challenge of coming up with new creative ideas, and I feel inspired when I reach my goals.”
What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?
“I enjoy painting landscapes, portraits, and abstract art. I enjoy using acrylics as I love bold colors.”
“Creativity doesn’t just open its doors in front of you. You have to be patient and wait for the right timing.”
How would you describe your work?
“My work is bright, vibrant, and vivid, but sometimes it can be dark and intense. It relates deeply to what is happening in the world, and reflects my way of appreciating nature and its natural beauty.”

Which artists influence you most?
“The French artist Sonia Delaunay has had great influence on my work.”
What is your creative process like?
“I like to prepare and ensure I’ve got enough time for myself. Then I focus on my inspiration, sinking into a brainstorming session in which I have no limitations.
I allow myself to create with satisfaction and contentment; to freely express my feelings and emotions. Finally, when the piece is done, I take the time to appreciate my original artwork.”
What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?
“It’s clear that artists have many different roles in the society. They are the model and inspiration of expressing beauty in all creations. Regardless of medium or style, we all share the same purpose: to create art—art that is unique, art that is political, art that is accessible, art that challenges, art that is expressive, art that is obscure.
In this new era, art evolves very fast and it comes with modern styles, drama and actions.”
