Interview
Andreas Ritter
Andreas was born in 1967 in Munich. He was a media designer in print and digital for different books from 1995 until 2010. He did designs for magazines and the internet in 2011. In 2017, he started a project called “AutosFineArt.” He received artist recognition from Saatchi Art Gallery (Los Angeles) since 2021. His works are featured in his own gallery in Motorworld, Munich.
What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?
“I have always loved classic cars, locomotives, airplanes and ships. I have also always liked the vintage industrial design. I am particularly fascinated by Bauhaus and Art Deco. I try to express the beauty of these things in my pictures.”
What inspires you?
“How do I come up with a new image idea? For example, if I see a classic automobile and its shapes appeal to me, I start a new image project. The implementation can be photorealistic, but it can also go in a completely different direction. That depends on the respective situation, but also on what kind of relationship I feel with the object.”
What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?
“I'm not tied to a specific topic. Some of my work is in the pop-art category. Others are street art images. Still others a mixture of urban and graffiti.”
How would you describe your work?
“I am a designer and learned the digital creation process early on. Some of my artwork is mixed media. But most were created digitally.”
Which artists influence you most?
“My role model is the graphic artist Art Fitzpatrick. Arthur M. Fitzpatrick (November 24, 1919 – November 16, 2015) was an American art director widely known for his automotive art and advertising illustrations. I also purchased some licenses from Art and have these illustrations in my portfolio too.”
“I am a designer and learned the digital creation process early on.”
What is your creative process like?
“I paint a picture from scratch on the computer. I also restore classic advertising posters. These posters are digitized and recreated in a complex process, whereby I also incorporate my own artistic ideas. My works appear as “light towers” (1 meter x 2 meters) and as canvas prints on real wood stretcher frames.”
What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?
“I believe that every artist should not allow themselves to be distorted and go their own way. He shows what he feels and also what he can do. A part of society can then identify with it. Or an impetus is given as to how we can see things differently.”
Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?
“I have my own gallery in Motorworld Munich. You can always see a selection of my works there.”
