Interview
Amy Moberger
“Adopted as an infant, Amy was placed in the loving hands of parents who cultivated nature and creativity. She was born an artist and sees the world through the lens of creativity.”
She graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in fashion. Later in life, she had an incredible urge to paint and landed a gallery contract at the Mac Worthington gallery of Contemporary Art within three months.
Her art has been described as radical and flowing, and is on display in homes in California, Oregon, Arizona, Chicago, New York, Boston, Colorado, Ohio and Florida.
Amy has been married for 30 years, and has 3 sons. She now resides in Anna Maria Island, Florida and is living the ‘mermaid life’ inspired by the beauty that surrounds her.
She constantly challenges herself in her artistry, and her vivid imagination draws the connoisseur into her paintings. When she creates, everything else disappears and she is found in the realm of all possibilities.
What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?
“I graduated with a BA degree in fashion merchandising from the Ohio State University. My background is in sales, but I decided to be a stay-at-home mother when the first of my three sons was born.
In 2018, I attended an energy healing seminar in Denver Colorado called Ultimatum. I returned home with clear knowledge in my soul that I was going to paint, and that I would be in a gallery within the year! 56 years of bottled creativity came pouring out of me. Having no formal art training was not a deterrent, but in fact allowed me to work without ‘rules’ in the way. I threw myself into learning by experimenting and watching videos online. I painted for hours each day. In three months, I landed a gallery contract at Mac Worthington Gallery of Contemporary Art in Columbus Ohio, and had my first art show in June of 2019.”
“I tend to experience the emotions and vibrations of others quite easily, and that can get heavy at times.
My art is healing. It allows me to express everything I’m feeling in the moment. I’m so thankful I’ve found my gift, and hope it can inspire others.”
What inspires you?
“I’m inspired by nature—the beauty of a sunrise, sunset, the clouds, the ocean, rolling waves, and the magnificent colors that change daily on this earth. Moving to Florida and being near the ocean was a lifelong dream that came true in 2020. Nature, sunsets, sand and waves fuel my soul and provide my inspiration. I also use my emotions to inspire each piece.”
What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?
“Much of my work happens after I have been to the beach to view a sunset. I’m inspired by the beauty I see, and love to create my version on canvas.”

How would you describe your work?
“My work is flowing and radical at times. It’s bursting with movement and color, incorporating emotions that have been marinating inside my being and need to be acknowledged.”
Which artists influence you most?
“I love artists who paint with a passion, especially autistic children who can’t verbally say what they experience. It is so deeply moving to see what is created from the depths of their soul.”
What is your creative process like?
“I enjoy listening to vibrationally high frequency music with bright sunlight pouring into my studio as I create. At times, I know exactly what and how I want to create. At other times I stare at a blank canvas until I’m guided by my intuition to start with certain colors. As I create, I eventually see something that jumps out at me, and I know exactly how I want to proceed with each piece. However, some pieces are planned in advance, especially if commissioned.”
What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?
“Everyone is unique and creates art for different reasons. Personally, I wish to create to add beauty to this world. I hope my art inspires another person to share their own gifts with the world. I am proof that anything is possible, and the only limits are the ones we put on ourselves.”
Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?
“My most memorable exhibitions have been:
2022 - St Petersburg Yacht Club.
2019 - Mac Worthington’s gallery of contemporary art, Columbus, Ohio.”
