Agnieszka Widerska is an independent creator of abstract art of Polish origin. She lives permanently in Bradford (Great Britain). Agnieszka graduated in humanities in Poland. She is a factory worker by profession. She has been creating art since 2017. In her art, she is inspired by artists such as: Paul Klee, Karel Appel, Andre Masson, Pablo Picasso, Pierre Alechinsky, Jean Dubbuffet. During 7 years of gaining experience, Agnieszka has created her own, original artistic style, closest to abstraction. She has been publishing her works for years on portals: Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram. In addition, she writes regularly on a blog about her art and personal life. She is inspired to create by: everyday life - current and past, human problems, behavior, as well as important events from the world and her own life, music, animals. She can present all this in an original, abstract story. Her goal in creating art is to change human behavior and negative traits for the better, and to teach humanity to be happier and more joyful.
What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?
“I have a Master's degree in humanities. I studied in Poland for 5 years. I graduated in 2015. After graduating in Poland, I was looking for a job for a long time. Finally, after some time, I started creating abstraction. I created many abstract stories and characters, mainly on A4 paper, although I also painted a few paintings on canvas and other materials, such as wood. When I started creating paintings, it was 2017. However, a year later, in 2018, I went abroad and shortly before moving to Great Britain, I made a personal decision to destroy most of my first works. I did not publish them anywhere. My other paintings from that period, which were created in Poland, are available on my blog. After coming to the UK, it took me a while to start creating and posting my work on my own blog again. After a year abroad, I created new paintings. I also continued to create my own abstracts. This continues to this day. I regularly post my work online on my Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram pages. I also write a blog about my art and myself. I do not sell my paintings.”
What inspires you?
“My life inspires me the most. Current, but also what happened in the past. In my works I am inspired by human behavior, events that are important to me, which I present in an abstract way. Apart from that, I am inspired by my favorite music.”
What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?
“In my works I refer to human experiences, their stories, e.g. suffering or joy experienced in life, their personal characteristics, which often draw my attention. You can also find the subject of animals there. I also often refer to important events, or holidays, e.g. Christmas or Halloween, Father's Day or Women's Day.”
How would you describe your work?
“It is an artistic abstraction. I present my life and events, behaviors, or human problems in my own version - abstract, in such a way and in such a story as I see it. I like to use a lot of colors in my works and create compositions, very often linearly. I do not use tools such as a ruler for this. I create everything only with my own hand and color. I invent everything myself at home.”
Which artists influence you most?
“Karel Appel, Paul Klee, Andre Masson, Jean Dubbuffet, Pierre Alechinsky and Pablo Picasso.”
“I present my life and events, behaviors, or human problems in my own version - abstract, in such a way and in such a story as I see it. I like to use a lot of colors in my works and create compositions, very often linearly.”
What is your creative process like?
“Most often on weekends in the evening or late at night I feel creative inspiration. Then, I listen to music and create. I like to listen to my favorite music when I create. I create mostly with pastels, markers or paints - on paper, sometimes also on cardboard material, or on canvas, in special art notebooks. After finishing the work and securing it, I share it on all my pages. I also promote my works using paid advertising on the Internet.”
What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?
“The role of the artist in society is important in my opinion, because they are able to change a lot in this area. By creating art, the artist can even make a revolution, because they have an influence on the masses of people. As an artist, you also create history. You can, having your own message, make a big change in society, help someone or set anew certain rules that people will follow, inspire. The role of the artist in society will certainly develop and will be even greater in the future, because the world is developing quickly. The possibilities of communication and methods of creating art are modernizing. Especially, for example, abstract painting should develop positively in the coming years, because I see myself that many new, young artists (including amateurs) create such art. It is even ‘fashionable’ among artists in recent times.”
