Opening: Thursday, September 18, 2025 6:00 PM
In the "Gravity Field" exhibition, distinguished artist, Vian Borchert, presents new abstract paintings at Lichtundfire gallery in Manhattan, NYC. The exhibition is curated by Priska Juschka. The exhibition runs throughout the month of September 2025. In her latest work, the artist reflects on the fragility of our shifting world, exploring themes of unrest and urban decay through abstraction. Borchert states, "In an ever changing world reshaped by war, natural disasters, unrest, and destruction, we witness a world eaten up by its own shifting conditions. The current status quo and what lies ahead can often feel bleak and unsettling. Yet, in the realm of art, everything endures, and everything remains relevant." The artist's latest body of work (acrylic paintings on canvas) is a reflection on the fragile state of today’s world and the way she personally perceives and processes it. The recent pieces act as emotional projectiles, capturing fleeting impressions via abstractions. Borchert expresses, "through my eyes, the viewer enters portals and doorways—metaphorical windows into the soul." One such piece, Broken Bridges, abstractly conveys the obstacles the artist encounters as she navigates change and uncertainty. The work speaks to a sense of loss, not just in the external world but also within the self while exploring the emotional and psychological impact of the abyss of emotional depth. Albeit abstract, linear symbols of broken bridges symbolizes derailed plans, redirection, and the emotional turbulence caused by unforeseen challenges portraying the unpredictable cycle of personal growth.
Moreover, Borchert latest series focuses on the eyes and what they see as the artist describes, "these deep wells of emotion that serve as windows to the soul. Through them, one can glimpse pain, joy, sadness and a multitude of feelings." The paintings, in this sense, become portals to Borchert's inner world, revealing raw, internal experiences along with turmoil of which the artist battles. Such feelings are translated through abstract and loose representational elements like bridges and windows in compositions that defy gravity – Though fragmented and even disconnected, they stand resilient, embodying a sense of flow through the usage of lines and tone. The color palette, balanced between dark and light represents the tension and coexistence of good and evil, chaos and harmony. Through expressive gestural marks and dynamic lines, the works strive to evoke a sense of strength, resilience, and the needed courage one must attain to move through life’s uncertainty and change.
