Interview
Djamila Fierek
Growing up in Wiesbaden, Germany, Djamila’s childhood was filled with the charm of its historic streets and cultural richness. After completing her education, she pursued her passion, earning a Masters degree at the Ludwig-Maximilians- University in Munich. Since she’s 30 years old, she splits her time between Munich and Scottsdale, Arizona.
What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?
“I started to paint when I was 4 years old. After completing my education, I pursued my passion of art, history of art and psychology. I split my time between Munich, where I immerse myself in the vibrant art scene and Scottsdale, Arizona, enjoying the desert landscape and diverse cultural influences.”
What inspires you?
“I often experiment in my artworks. I try different techniques and methods to create interesting visual effects. I also dare to try unconventional media combinations, such as combining acrylic paint with recycled materials or creating interactive three-dimensional artworks. As an artist you always ask yourself the question Why? Why am I doing art, what is the true deeper meaning of my art? As an artist, I believe in the power of spirituality and its influence on my creations. When I create, I tap into my spiritual abilities, allowing my energy to flow into my artwork.”
What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?
“Since last year, I am working on a couple of series. One is called ‘Ink & Glam’ : A Modern Pin-Up Odyssey. Each canvas tells the story of empowered women, inspired by the pin-up era, who proudly wear their intricate tattoos as expressions of their individuality and strength. From bold brushstrokes to intricate details, these portraits capture the essence of both classic glamour and contemporary edge. The second series I am constantly working on is called ‘Street Angels’ in the heart of New York City, where the rhythm of life pulses through every alley, a group of ethereal beings emerged as silent guardians. Cloaked in shimmering feathers, the angels silently soar above the bustling streets. Unseen by the hurried crowds below, they watch over the city like celestial sentinels.”
How would you describe your work?
“I use vibrant colors and dynamic compositions in my work, in order to provide a sense of energy and emotional intensity in my work. Bright, bold colors have the power to evoke strong emotional responses. I want to create pieces that are visually stimulating, inviting the viewer to explore every corner of the canvas.”
Which artists influence you most?
“My artwork is born from a deep, subconscious process, where my ideas emerge organically without conscious reference to external influences. Rather than being shaped by the style or techniques of other artists, my creative flow is driven by inner impulses and emotions that manifest spontaneously, reflecting a personal, instinctive vision.”

What is your creative process like?
“My spirituality is deeply intertwined with my creative process. I believe that my artwork is a reflection of my connection to a higher power (or inner self), which guides and inspires me. When I create, I feel a sense of alignment with something greater than myself, and this connection flows into my work, shaping its themes, colors and forms. Through my art, I explore and express the core beliefs and values that my spirituality teaches me. Whether it's the concept of unity, love, or the transcendence of the soul, these ideas find their way into my work, allowing me to communicate my spiritual journey visually. For me, creating art is a meditative practice. My spirituality encourages me to listen to my intuition, to be present in the moment, and to let go of the need for control. My spirituality sees art as a tool for healing and transformation, both for myself and others. The act of creating, allows me to process emotions, transcend challenges, and find inner peace. I hope that my work, can offer a similar experience of reflection and healing for those who view it.”
What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?
“As society evolves, the role of artists is also shifting. In the digital age, artists have more platforms to reach global audiences instantly. This has broadened the impact of art, making it more accessible and democratized. Artists are now mostly just creators but also activists, educators and influencers. Additionally, the rise of technology, such as AI, virtual reality, and digital platforms, provides new tools and mediums for artistic expression.”
Have you had any noteworthy exhibitions you'd like to share?
“Since this summer, I am represented by a gallery in Spring Lake, NJ. Kelly- McKenna Gallery is my first gallery experience in the United States.”
