What is your background and how did you start your journey in the art world?

“I'm originally from Puerto Rico. I hold a law degree, a bachelor's degree in art, and a bachelor's degree in fine art. It's somewhat difficult to pinpoint a specific "first" memory, as creativity has been a constant thread throughout my life. I just remember that from a very young age, I was engrossed in the process of creating. I use to go to art classes and art summer camp, I would immerse myself in painting, ceramics, tie-dye, and drawing, and each day brought a new opportunity to explore my artistic inclinations. The feeling I had during those moments of creation was a mix of excitement, curiosity, and a deep sense of fulfillment. There was an innate joy in the act of making something unique and meaningful with my own hands.”

What inspires you?

“Relationships. Delving into the intricate tapestry of love stories and relationships. The exploration of human connections and the raw courage of vulnerability. I am moved by the boundless courage and vulnerability it takes to be open to love, to wholeheartedly embrace the beauty of our own connections, and to cherish the shared human experience of love and connection.”

What themes do you pursue? Is there an underlying message in your work?

“I explore themes of intimacy and connection, inviting viewers into a realm of deep emotional resonance. I want them to feel the authenticity of the stories and experiences I convey through my art, and to be moved by the power of vulnerability and self-expression. My goal is for my art to inspire others to embrace their own feelings, connections, and to appreciate the beauty in imperfection.”

“I find my deepest inspiration in themes of connection and intimacy, delving into the intricate tapestry of love stories and relationships. The exploration of human connections and the raw courage of vulnerability drive me to create.”

How would you describe your work?

“My art explores the power of emotions and their ability to bridge the gaps between us. In a world where emotions often remain unspoken, my work serves as a vibrant channel for expression and connection. At the core of my artistic exploration is a profound journey into the realms of connection and intimacy. Inspired by the timeless tales of love that thread through the tapestry of human existence, my art transcends the confines of the canvas to narrate stories of profound emotion. My art is a powerful muse for those seeking love, longing for a deeper connection, or navigating the challenges of a long-distance relationship. It is a passionate odyssey that seamlessly blends the modern and the sensual, infusing every brushstroke with the captivating allure of desire. Through my work, I invite you to join me on a journey into the heart of human emotion, where each stroke of color reveals a facet of our shared human experience. It is a journey that promises to unlock the emotions within and kindle a profound sense of connection, offering a world of passion and understanding that awaits those willing to explore it.”

Which artists influence you most?

“I admire Michelangelo as a creator. His versatility and innovative spirit in working across multiple artistic mediums have always drawn me to his work. Michelangelo's ability to push the boundaries of art and make groundbreaking discoveries in various disciplines is truly inspirational. His dedication to excellence, his contributions to painting, sculpture, and architecture, and his timeless masterpieces such as the Sistine Chapel ceiling and the statue of David continue to captivate and influence artists and art lovers to this day. Michelangelo's unwavering commitment to his craft and his fearless pursuit of new artistic frontiers serve as a constant source of motivation for me in my own creative journey.”

What is your creative process like?

“I work mostly intuitively. I usually have an image or idea before I start the work, but I am not attached to the outcome. The painting usually evolves as I create it. I like to start by mixing gesso and white as the background to my painting and add colors and layers as I go. I usually work fast for a set number of hours, before I walk away until the next day. I find that by removing myself from the process. It gives me a chance to start with fresh eyes and allow the painting to tell me what it needs, instead of trying to force it into what I would want it to be. It allows for acceptance and to slow down. Sometimes, I walk away thinking is not really working and I am pleasantly surprise when I come back. It's an act of self-expression and a way to connect with the world on a deeply personal level. Creating allows me to convey my unique perspective, emotions, and stories, and it serves as a means of sharing my inner world with others. It's a form of liberation, a way to break free from limitations, and a source of joy and fulfillment. Ultimately, the ability to create is a fundamental aspect of my identity and a medium through which I explore, understand, and enrich both my life and the lives of those who connect with my work.”

What is an artist’s role in society and how do you see that evolving?

“I think artists are meant to bring inclusivity, affordability, empathy, and genuine human connection. It's disheartening to see art sometimes becoming a privilege accessible only to those with substantial financial means, leaving behind many who are equally deserving of experiencing its transformative power. Coming from Puerto Rico, where a significant portion of the population lives below the poverty index, I understand the importance of creating art that is affordable and accessible to all. My aim is to bridge this gap by producing art that is not only financially attainable but also emotionally resonant. I believe art should be a conduit for empathy and connection, a way to reach across boundaries and touch the hearts of individuals from all walks of life. My work seeks to break down the barriers that often exist within the art world, making it more inclusive, welcoming, and representative of diverse voices and experiences. This, to me, is how I strive to contribute to a more enriched and connected art world.”
